FOB FACTORY / F2472 N-3 Utility Jacket
Based on the N-3 Utility Jacket adopted by the U.S. Navy in the 1940s, this piece is reimagined for modern everyday wear through FOB FACTORY's meticulous approach to craftsmanship.
Rather than simply reproducing the original details, the fabric has been developed through extensive research, from the yarn to the dyeing process. By deliberately omitting military prints such as "U.S.N," the design softens its military character, making it easy to incorporate into everyday styling.
Slightly heavier than a typical work shirt, the fabric strikes an ideal balance—easy to throw on like a shirt, yet substantial enough to feel reassuring. In early autumn, wear it over a T-shirt or shirt; as temperatures drop, layer it with a sweatshirt or knitwear.
From its crisp appearance when new to the soft, worn-in character that develops over time, this is a jacket made to be enjoyed through every stage of its evolution and kept for years to come.

FOB FACTORY
Inspired by vintage clothing, FOB FACTORY creates workwear, military wear, and jeans from its base in Kojima, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture—one of Japan's leading production centers. Every stage of production is carried out in Japan, with the aim of making clothes that customers will still be glad they purchased three years later.

Refined at first, more rugged with every wear
The fabric is made from 100% cotton herringbone twill. Based on extensive research into the properties of materials used by the U.S. Navy in the 1940s, it has been carefully recreated from the yarn through to the dyeing process.
The finely woven herringbone fabric has a subtle sheen when new, offering a clean, refined appearance that cannot be found in vintage pieces.
With continued wear, the fabric gradually softens and develops greater character. The true appeal of this jacket lies not only in its pristine appearance when new, but also in the way it evolves according to how you wear it.
Built for the Navy, designed with utility in mind
The "N-3 Utility Jacket" was adopted by the U.S. Navy in 1943.
Primarily worn as workwear by personnel serving on the ground, it was made from durable herringbone twill and characterized by a simple construction focused on practical functionality.
The seams feature double-needle lap-seam construction, securely joining the fabric with two rows of stitching. Faithful to the details of the original, the jacket is built with the durability needed for years of wear.

Wartime details, refined for everyday wear
A slightly oversized collar gives the neckline the distinctive presence of a classic work jacket. The front features black-painted donut-shaped laurel buttons modeled after those used during World War II, subtly preserving the atmosphere of the era within an understated design.

A single patch pocket is placed on the left chest. Generously sized pockets at both sides are large enough to fit your hands comfortably, while also providing practical storage for everyday essentials such as a wallet or smartphone.
The buttoned cuffs can be worn as they are or lightly rolled up for a relaxed, shirt-like look.

More substantial than a shirt, lighter than outerwear
The fabric is slightly heavier than a typical work shirt, yet much lighter than a heavy winter jacket. This makes it an easy layer to reach for during the transitional seasons, when it can be hard to decide what to throw on.
In early autumn, simply throw it over a T-shirt. As temperatures drop, it layers comfortably over knitwear or a midweight sweatshirt. Its versatility also makes it ideal for periods with significant temperature changes between indoors and outdoors, allowing it to remain useful across a long season.
Although rooted in military wear, the restrained design avoids bold prints and other overt details. It pairs naturally with denim and chinos for classic American casual styling, while also working well with cleaner trousers such as slacks. Recommended for those who want a jacket to wear for years, allowing it to develop into a piece uniquely their own rather than simply following a passing trend.
